MOVIE REVIEW: FIRE-LINE FIGHTING (火線追兇)

火线追凶

Peanuts asked me to review Wallace’s dramas since day one, but Idon’t think I’ll do a good job. 😦 Thus  I’ll review Fire-Line Fighting (火線追兇) instead, since it’s a movie which is shorter and easier to review. Plus this is also one of my favorite Wallace movie series. Yes, it is a serial of 10 movies where all the stories are linked together.

List of the movies in sequence:

  1. 血色刀锋 The Bloody Blade
  2. 绝命狙击 The Sniper
  3. 黑枪疑云 Gun Mystery
  4. 突然死亡 Sudden Death
  5. 掘墓人 Grave Digger
  6. 惊魂宴 Scary Banquet
  7. 狂魔再现 Monster Reappears
  8. 无罪辩护 Defense for Innocence
  9. 冲破黑幕 Uncover Inside story
  10. 死亡地带 Zone of Death

The story took place around  the1930s in Shanghai. Detective Zhong Lang (Wallace Chung) was an outstanding squad leader in the local police station and was once known as ‘The Evil Nemesis’ because in one case, he caught the wrong murderer and caused the real culprit to run free and keep killing innocent people. As a result, he was affected badly and has been on a long vacation.

After 3 years, the same killing method happened again. Han Fei (Ashton Chen) has been admiring Zhong Lang , following him around and offering to help to solve the case. After being introduced by Han Fei, professor Yu Sheng Nan (Qi Fang) also joined them as a coroner. Sheng Nan has her own mysterious past that will be revealed little  by little throughout  the series. The three of them solved case after case together and became the strongest investigation team.

Wallace Chung as Detective Zhong Lang. I don’t know about others, but I’m convinced by Wallace’s tough detective look.

Ashton Chen as Han Fei. Yes, he’s the cute Shaolin boy in Shaolin Popey . I had a shock when I found out about it.

Qi Fang as Yu Sheng Nan, anyone recognize her? She’s Cheng Jin Zhi in Too Late To Say I Love You, and this time she finally got Wallace’s love lol. Unlike in TLTSILY, Qi Fang is very likable as Sheng Nan. She’s strong, independent and smart. Yup just like Jin Zhi but without her selfishness and evilness. 😀

Wallace had a decent amount of fight scenes. Too bad I couldn’t find any of those gifs. Hence, I decided to make my own. It was my first time making gifs so it’s not perfect. 😦

This time it is Detective Zhong goofing around. 😀

He has no male god aura in this movie because his character is not tender and also not cool like He Yi Chen. He is just a typical experienced detective who is insanely hot. 😛

This is my type of movie/drama, with mature acting from the cast, a good and realistic story line, no cheesy CGI effects (with the exception of one movie of which I forgot the name. Therefore that movie is my least favourite one, while the rest are great) and my favorite detective genre. They have everything which I like in 10 movies! I’m very happy and satisfied. 🙂

If you like mystery and detective stories, then you will like this series. Romance wise, there is not much but enough to make you ship them.

Each movie has an interesting story and it’s all connected with the main story line. Even if you didn’t start watching from the first movie, you’ll still be able to follow the plot. Just don’t suddenly go and watch the last movie, as you definitely won’t get what’s happening lol.

This movie actually has a second series, but with a totally different cast. With an older cast I can understand, but why their personalities also have a 180 degree change 😦

The older version of Zhong Lang and Sheng Nan.

Ray Lui Leung Wai acted as the older Zhong Lang. Most people might recognise him from his TVB drama The Bund with Chow Yun Fatt.

The mature version of Zhong Lang is too boring and plain for my liking.  I prefer Wallace’s tough, hasty and restless portrayal. Also, I can see Ray used a lot of stunt doubles in his fight scenes. While Wallace did almost all the stunts on his own, which made it more enjoyable. But I won’t blame him, since Ray Lui is old.

April Lee as the older Sheng Nan

I can’t believe they turned my favorite tough and cool Sheng Nan into a weak lady. 😦

I didn’t even finish the first movie in the second series because I can’t accept what they did to Sheng Nan. In addition, they have a new character who I found very annoying. 😦

The first one is always the best, just like Lu Li Cheng  lol.

If you’re not going to watch the movie, at least watch some behind the scene clips and you’ll get to see Wallace with his mirror again 😀

  1. Himmy, good job on the gif. I’ve been wanting to learn it for the longest time, but I’ve been finding it pointless as I don’t blog (until someone here drag me along).

    1. But how about TLTSILY? He look super HOT there!
IKR, they are so cute! In the recent interview, they keep joking around with each other, aww I like them together too. Wallace’s previous co-stars was either too young or not as playful as him.
